What a Woman's Gotta Do
What a Woman's Gotta Do is the stunning, gut-wrenching debut
thriller by Evelyn Coleman, an important new voice in suspense fiction. In the novel,
Coleman does what so few suspense writers have been able to do. She creates both an
incredible nail-biter of a plot as well as a memorable heroine -- Atlanta journalist
Patricia Conley.
In What a Woman's Gotta Do, Patricia stumbles upon a plot that
could devastate humanity. And if that's not enough, she's hunted by the police for murder,
by a crazed geneticist who thinks she knows too much, and by undercover cop Jeff Samuels,
who claims to love her. Torn between his affection and the memory of Kenneth Lawson, the
man she planned to marry before he disappeared, Patricia awakens to realizations about
what it means to be alone and what it means to be independent.
Evelyn Coleman's ground breaking novel mixes science and
spirituality while tackling questions of race, gender and power. In Patricia Conley, she
also renders an intimate portrait of a woman's struggle to redefine herself, discovering
that sometimes what a woman's gotta do requires a little bit of muscle and a whole lot of
heart.

WHAT A WOMAN'S GOTTA DO
Here's another excerpt from What A Woman's Gotta Do:
Death is such a final thing. Maybe I would know death myself soon. What had Kenneth Lawson
gotten me mixed up in? I could see images of Dr. Kia Mutota's body, bloody and oozing. I
could hear the rumble of the train. I could smell the blood, and see it curdling like
buttermilk. Three times I asked Jeff to pull over for me to throw up on the side of the
road. Death was one thing I didn't stomach well.
